There’s no shame in getting a pro. I clay and wax my own car but those pros are wizards. Plus they have the tools and experience to do it right.

CAUGHT YOU!!!
Hey a clean car is a happy car and a happy owner.

It’s best to get someone who knows rather than to take it to a drive through, or a hand wash place and risk doing damage. At least this way, if any damage is done they are legally required to be insured against any damage.

Top tip for getting someone in to do it. Do a walk around the car (they should request you walk round with them noting any damage on a picture sheet and sign it) of the car. It’s to cover you as well as them.

I didn’t go as far as a check list but they did a great job on both and I can easily maintain them now, they both suffered a lack of attention last summer due to the crappy weather and me being lazy, the Leon especially, they had to give it a light machine polish after claying it while the i3 just needed a hand polish. Very happy with the results, the guy is a proper detailing enthusiast (like yourself) who has turned it in to his business, really nice guy as well.

They mostly used Dodojuice products and really got a lovely finish on both cars. They also managed to get the awful water stain off the drivers seat on the Leon that I had just made worse trying to sort and banned us from wearing blue jeans in the i3, seems a very light grey interior and jeans don’t mix!! LOL

Sounds like they did good.

Dodo Juice. I had a pint with the boss years ago. They are passionate about waxes and enjoying themselves and detailing.

They really did, his prices are silly low as well (almost put me off cos I was suspicious!), he said he hasn’t been doing it long as a business and wanted to start low to get more people to try him but will be changing his prices soon so he is at the low end of average price! lol

Yeah some of the products he has of theirs are awesome, will give some a go at some point, he has just become an official distributor of their stuff so can get me a discount!

There’s a glutton of people entering the market with an attitude of, ‘well I can clean my car, I can do it as a business’.

All to often there are people joining the detailing website I’m on asking solely, ‘how do I start a detailing or valeting business’.

It’s a good thing but most don’t realise the overheads and that it’s a very fine knife edge of little profit and going under. But while some are looking for a fairytale of easy money for just washing a car. Businesses like the one you used have to cut throat low their prices to establish a name and customer base to take the fairytalers out.

If you like the company you used and think the team are decent honest people passionate about what they do, please give them a hand up, let people know how good they are.

Oh I know, I took my time picking who I was going to use, his reviews and enthusiasm where what made pick him, he has a 3 week wait time for the full valet he did for me but when I told him one of the cars was an i3 he got really excited and decided to give up his BH Monday off to do them. I’ve already left him a 5 star review and recommended him on FB. He seems to be doing well, he has just (last week) got a unit to do more involved and time consuming detailing work, in fact he has just posted a pic on FB of the new, bigger roll up door they have just had fitted. I’m also going to get him to come and give the cars maintenance cleans when the interiors need doing (I hate cleaning the inside of cars!).

Good lad. Need to support the genuine ones.

Re- the i3. We do get excited about cars we’ve not done before.

For me, one was the Ford Mk2 Focus RS. It wasn’t my sort of thing but boy did it grow on me.

Interiors can be a PITA, especially cars that have had small or short haired dogs in (and the owner swears blind no dog has been in or only in the back seat, LIARS). But I’m coming around to interiors.

Inside windows. two words, suede cloths.

Do your initial clean with a microfibre then a secondary clean with a light mist of glass cleaner on the suede cloth.

Oh I had not heard of that, a top Svend tip!!

When cleaning a window it’s easy to just keep moving and smearing the dirt around the glass.

So after you do your initial wipe, turn over, open and fold back, repeat.

The idea is your removing the dirt from the glass surface and using a clean face to remove more each time.

Kinja'd!!!

You should get eight clean surfaces out of each cloth.

The suede cloth is to remove any final smears, dirt and any microfibre fibres which while looking clean, the glass can have many very small fibres that when the sun catches it in the right light can dazzle or generally look like a smear and reduce visibility.

My microfibres are washed quite regularly in the correct microfibre wash at the right temperature and still little tiny fibres will come out.

Sorry. I tend to go overboard.

Imagine how much fun I am when I start talking about cleaners, sealants, protectants, dressings, weights of microfibre, types of applicators, types of brushes, pressure washers, vacuums, etc...

Oh, AND then there’s the cooking of burgers, steaks, etc...

Ye’, I’m a fun guy. Lol.
